trade, torture, and the upcoming election with your peers.
We'll be heading over to Ocean Beach afterward for a bonfire.

serve. If you'll be late, you can bring your own shirt to be
graffitied, too.
There will also be hands on mural painting and an immigration display
from USF's chapter of Amnesty International.

Former Prisoner of Conscience and activist, Father Louie Vitale will
give a speech entitled "A Nonviolent Response to Terrorism." He was
recently released from jail for civil disobedience in protest of Fort
Huachuca. Shortly after, he was again arrested at the March 19
anti-war rally in San Francisco.
Carlos Mauricio, founder of Stop Impunity, will speak about his
experience as a victim and survivor of torture in El Salvador.

Compared to writers Garcia Marquez, Vargas Llosa and Carlos Fuentes, author Francisco Goldman weaves together meticulous research with personal narrative to give a riveting account of the infamous murder of Guatemalan Bishop Juan Gerardi. Bishop Gerardi was killed in his home days after the release of his human rights report linking US-supported Guatemalan security forces to the torture, disappearances and deaths of over 200,000 Guatemalans through the 1980s and 90s.

Laura E. Perez, Associate Professor of Ethnic Studies, University of
California, Berkeley

Laura E. Perez will be discussing her new book, Chicana Art: The Politics of Spiritual and Aesthetic Altarities, which explores how Chicana artists have created a "culturally hybrid spirituality to challenge racism, bigotry, patriarchy and homophobia." Their work is filled with representations of spirituality and allusions to non-Western visual and cultural traditions, the work of these Chicana artists is a
vital contribution to a more inclusive canon of American arts."

Laura Perez will be in conversations with two of the artists featured in her book, Celia Herrera Rodriguez and Patricia Rodriguez, and with USF Theology and Religious Studies Professor, Jorge Aquino.

This event is free and open to the public.
