California, Berkeley

Laura E. Perez will be discussing her new book, Chicana Art: The Politics of Spiritual and Aesthetic Altarities, which explores how Chicana artists have created a "culturally hybrid spirituality to challenge racism, bigotry, patriarchy and homophobia." Their work is filled with representations of spirituality and allusions to non-Western visual and cultural traditions, the work of these Chicana artists is a
vital contribution to a more inclusive canon of American arts."

Laura Perez will be in conversations with two of the artists featured in her book, Celia Herrera Rodriguez and Patricia Rodriguez, and with USF Theology and Religious Studies Professor, Jorge Aquino.

This event is free and open to the public.
